This policy explains what personal data Nihonian collects, why, and the choices you have. Nihonian ("we", "us") is a product of Neuronic Technologies Private Limited (CIN U62099HR2024PTC121472), India.
The short version
- You can practise without an account. Your learning progress then stays on your phone.
- If you sign in, we store your phone number or Google account ID and your learning progress, so we can back it up and sync it between your devices.
- We send sign-in codes through WhatsApp. We never sell your data and never use it for advertising.
- You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account at any time.

Who we share it with
Only with service providers who help us run Nihonian, under contracts that limit what they can do with it:
- Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform), to deliver sign-in codes and launch messages.
- Google, for Google sign-in and Google Play payments.
- Our hosting provider, which runs our servers in India.
- An AI provider, only for speaking and writing corrections when that feature launches, and only the text or audio you submit for correction.
We may disclose data if the law requires it. We never sell personal data.
Your consent and your rights
We process your data based on your consent, which you give when you join the waitlist or sign in. You can withdraw it at any time. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- ask what data we hold about you and get a summary of it;
- correct or update it;
- have it deleted (see Delete your account);
- nominate someone to exercise these rights for you; and
- raise a complaint with our grievance officer, and then with the Data Protection Board of India.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist details: until launch plus 6 months, or until you ask us to remove them.
- Account and learning data: while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it (for example, payment records).
- Backups are overwritten within 30 days.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, sign-in codes are stored only in hashed form and expire within minutes, and access to our systems is limited and logged.
Children
Nihonian is meant for people aged 18 and over. If you're under 18, please use Nihonian only with the consent of a parent or guardian. If we learn we've collected data from a child without that consent, we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app or by message before it applies.
